Our Honest Advice

After helping customers for over 30 years, the one thing we see time and time again is a mattress wearing unevenly because it hasn't been turned or rotated. This is so important — even if you never used to do it, start now.

Mattress Rotation

Rotating your mattress helps ensure even wear and extends its lifespan. Turn your mattress 180 degrees so the head becomes the foot. This simple step prevents body impressions from forming in one area and maintains consistent support across the entire surface.

For the first 12 weeks, rotate weekly to help the fillings settle evenly. After this initial period, continue rotating monthly to maintain optimal comfort and support.

Weekly for 12 weeks, then monthly

Mattress Flipping (Double-Sided Only)

If you have a double-sided mattress, flipping is essential for even wear. Turn the mattress over completely so the bottom becomes the top. Many modern mattresses are single-sided and should never be flipped — check your mattress label or ask our team if you're unsure.

For double-sided mattresses, alternate between flipping and rotating each week. One week flip the mattress, the next week rotate it. This ensures all surfaces wear evenly and maintains the mattress structure.

Alternate weekly with rotation

Mattress Protector Care

A quality mattress protector is your first line of defense against spills, stains, and allergens. Regular washing keeps your sleeping environment fresh and hygienic while protecting your mattress investment.

Remove and wash your protector monthly in warm water with mild detergent. Always follow the care label instructions. Allow it to dry completely before putting it back on your mattress. Never use a hoover on your mattress as this can damage the internal fillings and void your guarantee.

Monthly

Bed Frame Maintenance

Your bed frame provides essential support for your mattress. Over time, bolts and fixings can work loose through normal use, potentially affecting the stability and support of your bed.

Every six months, check all bolts, screws, and fixings on your bed frame. Tighten any that have become loose. Pay particular attention to corner joints and center support rails. This simple maintenance step prevents squeaks, ensures proper mattress support, and extends the life of your bed frame.

Every 6 months

What Not To Do

Don't fold or bend a mattress

This can split the fillings inside and will void your guarantee.

Don't jump on your bed

This can cause the springs to collapse and will void your guarantee.

Don't constantly sit on the edge

The edges will give way much sooner, reducing the life and comfort of your mattress.

Don't store a mattress upright for long periods

The fillings can move and settle unevenly, affecting comfort and support.

Don't use a damaged base

Your mattress follows the line of the base beneath it. A damaged or unsuitable base will affect the mattress and void your guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes, but allow it to air for a few hours first. Remove all packaging and let it breathe before making the bed. Any initial odour will dissipate within a few days.
  • Some body impression is completely normal and not a manufacturing fault — it's the fillings settling to your shape. Regular turning and rotating will minimise this significantly.
  • Act quickly. Blot (don't rub) with a dry cloth, then use mild soapy water if needed. Never soak the mattress. A breathable waterproof mattress protector means stains rarely reach the mattress at all.
  • No. Vacuuming can cause fillings to move and will void your guarantee. Use a soft brush instead.
  • With proper care — regular turning, a good mattress protector, and a sound base — a quality mattress should last 8–10 years.
  • No. Bending or folding damages internal fillings and voids your guarantee. Call us before delivery if you have a tight staircase.
  • A good breathable protector should be virtually undetectable. Ours are fully breathable so you won't feel them or overheat — and they protect your guarantee. We use them on our own mattresses.
  • Yes, but follow the manufacturer's guidelines. Use it to warm the bed before getting in rather than sleeping with it on. A mattress protector is still recommended.
  • Stains, failure to turn or rotate, using a damaged base, vacuuming, bending the mattress, and chemical cleaners.
  • Yes, very common. Showroom mattresses have settled. A new mattress may feel slightly firmer at first and will soften over the first few weeks. Keep turning it regularly.
